For those who adore the stories that retell historical events in a contemporary way, Paramount Theatre has a fresh play. The Broadway musical Six — The Musical offers amazing music and a new take on the women of Henry VIII. The audience witnesses the power of women with an awesome musical and memorable pop music.
Founded on the many marriages of King Henry VIII, Six tells the tale of the King's six wives. Penned by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, Six forms the tale as a singing competition in which each bride must tell their stories to the judges. The audience watches as each woman seizes their own identity.
The show opens as each bride introduces themselves through the lyrics of a song. Only the singer who suffered the most can win the title of the band's lead singer. Despite fighting among themselves, the brides finally realize they can no longer let this king define them. And by the conclusion they sing together as a cohesive band.
The show first opened in 2017, but Paramount Theatre now features the next showing. Critics rave about the musical's innovation and dynamic advocacy. Fans love the smashing music, the message, and the happiness that the musical conveys.

"Six" is the retelling of the lives of the wives of King Henry VIII, who was an infamous king of England in the early 1500s. During his 4 decades as king, he had six marriages. His demands to leave his first marriage saw the separation of the Church of England from papal authority. Many people probably are familiar with the story of Henry VIII. However, you may not know the story of his many wives. That’s where "Six" picks up.
The musical delves into the story of the six queens as they sing about their individual experiences with the king. The queens try to decide who had the worst experience in living with the king. The queens discuss divorce, rejections, infidelity, and even beheadings in a way that keeps you laughing while also touching your soul. There is a contemporary twist on the story by incorporating a dating app through a parody.
Eventually, they realize that fighting over who had the most awful experience with Henry VIII is not helpful. They eventually decide to think about how Henry VIII denied their individuality. They’re not just the six wives of a terrible king - they have their personal strengths that deserve celebrating. The ex-wives eventually help each other to write new endings to their stories. They achieve their “happily ever afters” that Henry VIII denied them by picturing what their lives would’ve been like without marrying Henry VIII.
