Taking inspiration from very powerful source material, Paramount Theatre is ready for the demand of hosting the staging of the reinvention of a historical story. Shakespeare’s original play has historically been famous as one of the most despairing tales across multiple generations, with the main protagonists' zealous infatuation for each other leading to their choice to commit suicide. Using Shakespeare and his wife as tools in the play itself however, West End's modern musical, & Juliet, changes up the narrative by allowing Juliet to discover what life has to offer after the death of her true love and empowering her to finally make her own decisions. Wishing to find new experiences with Juliet's equally-resolved companions, the cast is opened up to a new world beyond what Juliet and her friends were ready for when they move to Paris.

Setting itself apart from Shakespeare’s classic, the musical also chose to apply storytelling that fits current times. To deliver its message across to the theatergoers, the play promotes a slew of numbers borrowed from pop music’s best icon, Max Martin. The Swedish songwriter and producer already had intentions of creating a musical around all his songs over his career, resulting in the musical being produced and afterwards debuting in the year 2019. Martin gave complete freedom in the usage of his hits to the musical, expressing how he “wanted every song to feel like it was written for the musical, and to let theatergoers feel that even if it is a very different medium for his usual work, fans could completely follow everything.” The existing play is headlined with songs from chart-topping performers including Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, P!nk, and NSYNC, among others. Because of this, the play was one of the first to gather a different fanbase to theater.
