When he moved to New York City in 1990 to pursue comedy and acting, the then 24-year-old Jim Gaffigan hoped to become a successful comic, replicating the success of the Saturday Night Live comedians he looked up to. The budding comedian took acting lessons and standup comedy classes, which eventually made him fall in love more with the craft.
Over the years, he experimented with different approaches in comedy but ended up adapting observational standup as his style. His career took off after he finally saw the path he wanted to follow. His appearance on David Letterman's "The Late Show with David Letterman," after six years of relentless auditions, captivated the audience immediately. This successful appearance led him to be featured on Comedy Central. While building his name in the standup comedy circuit, he released recordings compiled into albums. "" The Pale Tourist," Beyond the Pale," "Mr. Universe," "King Baby," "Noble Ape," and "Comedy Monster" are some of his best standups/ albums, which catapulted his career to greater heights.
Aside from making a name in the standup comedy circuit, he also ventured into film, appearing in countless movies like "13 Going on 30," "The Love Guro," "The Real Howard Spitz," "Collide," "Peter Pan & Wendy," and "Providence." He has also played several characters in TV series since 1998, acting as Manny Broward in the mini-series "Full Circle."
Truly, he is a self-made man who made a name for himself in the entertainment scene. As a result, he has been recognized by some of the most reputable award-giving bodies for his extensive work in comedy and film. The American Comedy Awards awarded him with the award for Concert Comedian in 2014. His comedy special "Pale Force" received a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2007 for "Best Broadband Program—Comedy." In addition, he was nominated seven times in the Grammy Awards for the "Best Comedy Album" category.
This year, Gaffigan is embarking on another standup comedy tour dubbed "Barely Alive Tour." The iconic comedian will be spreading happiness and laughter for comedy lovers of all ages this spring. He will be at the Paramount Theatre Seattle for a four-night comedy show from April 11 to 14. You are cordially invited to attend his hilarious final night performance at the famous Seattle venue on April 14.
