Search for the elusive light at the edge of the tunnel with the Girl from the North Country at the Paramount Theatre on Saturday 29th June 2024! In this on-stage historical fiction, crowds will go through 2 ½ hours of incredible Eugene O’Neill-esque chronicles tuned to the music of this century’s most celebrated songwriter.
Set during the 1934 winter of Duluth, Minnesota, our story centers around a dilapidated guesthouse kept by the Laine family. It pursues the intertwining lives of the lost souls that take shelter there, from the dementia-stricken Elizabeth Laine to the morphine-addicted physician Dr. Walker. Secrets will spill, and inner demons made clear. Amid the cruel shadow of an economic crisis, can the rays of hope break through?
Girl from the North Country is written and directed by Laurence Olivier Award-winning playwright Conor McPherson. It exhibits a magnificent score from ten-time Grammy Award winner Bob Dylan with twenty hand-selected songs, including hits like "Hurricane" and "License to Kill."

“The moody music and lyrics from the Bob Dylan playbook both define and heighten Conor McPherson’s haunting vision of the Depression… Overall, the morose music captures the bleakness of the period and the down-and-out hopelessness of those Americans who barely lived through it.” - Variety
Named after the singer-songwriter's classic folk hit, Girl from the North Country made its debut in 2017, performing at The Old Vic before committing to West End London. The limited-week stint was a big success, clinching three wins at the Laurence Olivier Awards.
The production then found its way to the US in late 2018 at the Public Theatre, New York. Here, it won a prized Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical from the Outer Critics Circle Awards. The next year, the show finally played on Broadway at the Belasco Theatre. Despite the shortened run because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was nominated seven times at the Tony Awards, winning Best Orchestrations for Hale’s work.
This coming summer, the jukebox musical will stop by the Paramount Theatre as a part of its new run of shows. The indoor arena promises viewers a truly momentous experience thanks to its comfortable seats, remarkable stage, and top-of-the-line theatrical facilities.
