“People Who Aren’t There Anymore is that rare album where you might find yourself with the unusual but life-affirming compulsion to dance and quietly sob at the same time.,” wrote Christopher J. Lee in his rave review for PopMatters.
Fronted by songwriting crooner Samuel T. Herring, Future Islands pioneered the post-wave movement with their creative eclecticism, drawing influences from punk and alt-rock to create a distinct synth-pop signature. Dance to their music’s upbeat melodies and weep to its melancholic lyrics, vividly epitomized in their critically acclaimed 2014 Singles album and its classic hits “Seasons (Waiting on You)” and “A Dream of You and Me.” Accompanied by Billboard Triple A charting songs like “Ran,” “For Sure,” and “Plastic Beach,” this forthcoming show promises both casual listeners and deep-cut aficionados a piercingly evocative experience unmatched in today’s music industry.
The prestigious Paramount Theatre — Seattle’s official city landmark — will host the Future Islands’ concert this September, Friday the 13th, highlighting the performance with its historic Beaux-Arts backdrop.
