When it comes to professional dance, there is only one name that stands head and shoulders above the rest: Derek Hough. His incredible abilities have kept fans entertained, whether in his role as a dancer, actor, or choreographer.
His career highlights are an astonishing read. From the period of 2007 all the way through 2016, he appeared as a professional dancer on ABC's “Dancing with the Stars,” on which he won six times, a record breaking achievement. His celebrity partners who took the win with him include huge names such as Brooke Burke, Nicole Sscherzinger, Jennifer Grey, Kellie Picker, Amber Riley, and Bindi Irwin. He now appears as a judge on the show as well as on NBC's World of Dance from 2017 to 2020.
On Broadway, he made his debut in Burn the Floor and also appeared as Ren in Footloose, The Musical. In addition, he has also appeared in big screen productions such as Harry Potter and Rock of Ages.
As an author, his book "Taking the Lead; Lessons from a Life in Motion" made its debut in 2014 and quickly landed in the coveted New York Times Best Seller list. For his work, he has won three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography from an amazing 11 nominations and is the only professional dancer to have won six Mirror Ball Trophies.
Hough studied dance in London with coaches Shirley Ballas and Corky. He stayed there for 10 years, learning at the “Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts,” where he received training in theater, song, gymnastics, and various forms of dance. In addition to his already incredible list of abilities, Hough can also play the guitar, bass, drums, and piano.
