Black Violin is made up of the incredibly talented (and Grammy-nominated!!) classically trained violist and violinist Wil Baptiste and Kev Marcus who combine their classical training and hip-hop roots to cook up a signature multi-genre sound that is hailed as “classical boom”. The group dropped their major label debut Stereotypes on Universal Music which peaked at the coveted #1 spot on the Billboard Classical Crossover Chart and #4 on the Billboard R&B Chart. With a first impression like that, it's no wonder they caught the attention of the Grammys! Right from the get-go, Black Violin had a bright future. NPR even said “their music will keep classical music alive for the next generation”. They burst onto the scene in 2004 and are not about to hit the brakes anytime soon with their brand new single, "Legends In The Making." Over the years, the duo have collaborated with industry heavyweights including Alicia Keys, 2Chainz, Lil Wayne and Kanye West, as well as toured with Wu-Tang Clan and Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park.
And now, the sensational Black Violin is putting on a headlining tour for you to enjoy their latest and greatest hits live. Get ready to party to all your favorite songs like “A Flat,” “Stereotypes,” and “Virtuoso!” This performance will celebrate Black Violin’s fusion of hip hop and classical music. The Black Violin Experience Tour is kicking off on July 20 at the Mableton, GA, and is making its way to the esteemed Majestic Theatre Dallas on August 24.
Black Violin have made it their mission to challenge the stereotypes about what a “classical musician” looks and sounds like. “The stereotypes are always there, embedded so deep in our culture,” says Wil Baptiste. “Just by nature of our existence we challenge those ideas. It’s a unique thing that brings people together who aren’t usually in the same room, and in the current climate, it’s good to bring people together.” Call your friends, secure your places, and make memories that will last a lifetime this fall!
