It’s another Silent Movie Monday! Get transported back in time with timeless black-and-white films that shaped a generation far before us. Here in Seattle, Washington, you get the unique experience of catching old films in a renowned theatre for an immersive and unforgettable night. This time around, Sherlock Jr. (1924) and The Love Nest (1923) are making their way to the big screen. The screening will feature Christian Elliot on the organ. Doors shall open at 6 pm and the show will begin promptly at 7 pm. Don’t be late! Else, there may be a chance you won’t be allowed in. So, save the date and clear your schedule for Monday, the 5th of August, 2024. The shows will be held at the Paramount Theatre - Seattle.

Silent Movie Mondays at The Paramount Theatre are like a blast from the past, celebrating the history of this iconic venue since its grand opening on March 1, 1928, featuring the film "FEEL MY PULSE" with Bebe Daniels and William Powell. Seattle Theatre Group makes it a tradition, bringing us silent films accompanied by live organ music played on the Mighty Wurlitzer, the original organ from back in the day. These classic films give us a peek into the past and often have something relevant to say about the present. Everyone's invited to join in the fun at Silent Movie Mondays!
The first show will be Sherlock Jr.. It is a 1924 silent comedy flick that Buster Keaton directed and starred in. It's got Kathryn McGuire, Joe Keaton, and Ward Crane in the mix too. Fun fact: The Library of Congress gave it the nod for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry back in '91, recognizing its cultural and historical significance. In 2000, the American Film Institute ranked it #62 in their list of the funniest movies ever made.
Buster is a movie theater janitor who aspires to be a detective and has a crush on a woman. His romantic rival, the "local sheik," competes for her affection. Buster finds a dollar in the trash, which he later returns to a woman who claims to have lost it, followed by another dollar to an old woman who says the same. Now left with just a dollar, Buster is framed when the sheik steals a pocket watch and places the pawn ticket in Buster's pocket. He gets banished from the woman's house.
Next up, The Love Nest. It is a 1923 American short comedy silent film also written and directed by and starring Buster Keaton. This special show is his 19th and final film at Buster Keaton Productions and his last silent short film.
In this one, Keaton's looking to escape his sad life and lost love. He hops on his boat, Cupid, and guess what? He bumps into this whaling ship called The Love Nest. But, oh boy, the captain on that ship is ruthless! He tosses folks overboard for the tiniest slip-ups. One day, the steward accidentally spills hot tea on the captain's hand. Find out how it ends when you attend the show!
